• Finally you may wish to fund the claim privately by paying your lawyer on an hourly basis. Reasonable costs and disbursements would be recovered if you were successful in making your claim.

Once the funding issue has been dealt with, the next step involves assessing and proving liability. Very often it can take time to properly establish liability. This is because most cases are usually complex in nature and initial investigations need to be carried out in many cases. These investigations can involve reviewing the claimants medical records (GP notes etc) and asking the claimant to undergo a medical examination.
In order to win the case you must show that a “standard of care” was owed to the claimant by the defendant (medical professional) and that this standard was breached. You must then establish causation - in other words prove that injury or harm resulted from the breach.

It goes without saying that medical negligence claims are very complex and can take a long time to conclude. They are not run of the mill claims that can be dealt with by any lawyer. You need specialist legal assistance from day one and must be prepared to cooperate fully with your lawyer.

“Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Hebrews 12:3).

Evaluate! Appreciate! Contemplate! Consider Him who confronted all sorts of affronts so that we may be able to have patience and persistence. The Noblest Man suffered a most ignoble death. Even as He was dying, “The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, `He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One’” (Luke 23:35). The feet that carried Him to others with His good news (Romans 10:15) and the hands that lifted and blessed (Matthew 8:3,15; Mark 10:13) went back to heaven permanently scarred because of His love for us.

Consider also what Jesus said: “Only in his home town, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor” (Mark 6:4). He didn’t say it in self-pity or with cynicism as we might do in a similar circumstance. He was being realistic. “He was amazed at their lack of faith” but He went on with life: “Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village” (v. 6b). “He could not do any miracles there” so He went on with His mission and His truth.

What a splendid lesson we have here. When we feel we must win in a situation, whether it’s a conversion or our particular version of something, it might help us to remember that even Jesus saw the futility of staying with a particular circumstance. With God all things are possible, but it must be in His good time and in His way. It wasn’t that He would not, but even Jesus could not do anything for people were not ready.

It will help us to keep from becoming immobilized emotionally and physically when we cannot help a relative or a friend if we realize that God works in His and their time frame. It then becomes our responsibility to let Him do His work while we do ours, even if it is in the midst of friction and fray.

Opportunity is knocking. Opportunity is knocking all the time. All the time. Sometimes we do not hear the knocking. Or we may hear, see, or sense it and then ignore or discount it. We may, for example, be preoccupied with the absence of opportunity, which invites its absence. Preoccupation with absence, allows absence to expand.

Invite in the Peace and Joy and Friendship and anything else you want. Be specific or be general. Be clear what you desire, relax, and let it in. Open and receive.

Today is an opportunity. Indeed, each moment, each situation, each second, is an opportunity. Listen for the knocking of opportunity.

Every year about this time, many parents ask: “For spring break my teen-ager wants to spend a week at the beach with a group of his/her friends without any adults around. We are not sure we should let them do this. What do you think?”

When you find yourself, as a parent, wondering if and how you should deal with a problem attitude or behavior in a child under age 10, ask yourself: What will this look like in 10 years?

You begin to create teen-agers when they are children.

Speaking of the teen years, many experts in the area of family development are beginning to note that the adolescent stage can last until age 25 in our society. This means that 18 is only a chronological and legal number, not a number that reflects maturity and/or character development.

One of the really strange but good reasons to not fight with your spouse is that it can become addictive. Couples actually get addicted to the juice of fighting, and then stay stuck in that pattern. This sets up an atmosphere of conflict, hostility and antagonism.

The Mobile World Congress and its previous incarnations - the GSM World Congress and the 3GSM World Congress, in the past have been glitzy events where multiple new products were launched and a wide array of gadgetry was on display from all the major players of the mobile industry. With thinning profits and plummeting revenues for all manufacturers, the much-anticipated event has also been adversely affected by the total lack of business confidence.

The flashy gadgets are hard to find and the product launches have dried up. GSMA Chief Executive, Rob Conway did not ignore the lukewarm response to the event in his keynote address and expressed his worry about the falling attendance, saying that it seemed only the elite of the mobile world made it to the event this year. According to the Associated Press, 49,000 people attended the event this year, down from 55,000 last year. An even more worrying problem was that the people who attended the event lacked the usual enthusiasm, making it an overall disappointing year for an event considered as the pilgrimage for the mobile industry.

Meanwhile, some important discussions did take place, such as the issues surrounding spectrum reallocation, and how mobile broadband could reach where fixed line has failed. The latter is a major area of growth potential for the mobile industry, with surveys showing that almost two thirds of the mobile consumers expect a growth in their data services usage. This is an opportunity, which most mobile service providers are banking on to drive the next wave of revenues and profits.

While she was alive, Dixon was an advisor to many famous celebreties including Ronald and Nancy Reagan. As a matter of fact, Nancy Reagan was constantly hounded by the press for her reliance on astrologers and psychics to set the president’s schedule. Jean Dixon was one of the people she relied on the most until one day she decided that Dixon had lost her powers and decided instead to align herself with Dixon’s rival, Joan Quigley.

Dixon was also the author of seven books. She wrote her autobiography as well as horoscopes for dogs, astrological cookbooks and several books on psychic phenomena. Dixon was one of the leading believers in ESP and was a well known influential Washington socialite.

After Kennedy was killed in 1963 the notoriety that hit Dixon because of it drove political columnist Ruth Montgomery to write a book called “A Gift Of Prophecy: the Phenomenal Jean Dixon.” This book told of hundreds of accurate predictions Dixon made throughout the years. The book was published in 1965 and sold more than three million copies. The publishing of this book turned Dixon into an overnight celebrity and made her much in demand to do lectures, and eventually prompted her to start her own syndicated horoscope column, which was printed in newspapers all over the world.

For some reason though Jean Dixon was the psychic that everybody loved to hate. Year after year were reports by countless people that Dixon’s predictions were bogus and that she had never made one that actually came true, including the one about Kennedy’s death. The woman was under constant attack in tabloids all over the country. A respected Mathematician by the name of John Allen Paulos coined what was known as the “Jean Dixon Effect” where people come up with a few accurate predictions but conveniently overlook the hundreds of false predictions that never come true.

The truth is, not all of Jean Dixon’s predictions came true. She predicted that World War III would start in 1958 over some offshore Chinese Islands and that labor leader Walter Reuther would run for president in 1964 and that the Russians would land the first man on the moon.

Jean Dixon may not have always been accurate with her predictions but she will always remain one of the most colorful and well know psychics in history.
